COURSE INFORMATION
Become an Emergency First Responder today and learn how to respond when facing emergency situations. Whether a diver or not, if you want to build the confidence and skills needed to provide basic emergency care, the Emergency First Response (EFR) Course might be for you. This course is an accredited CPR and First Aid programme that helps divers and non divers advance their knowledge, providing the skills they need to potentially save a life. This programme is designed to build confidence in lay rescuers and increase their willingness to respond when faced with a medical emergency. You will learn simple steps to follow for emergency care and how to remain calm in emergency situations. The Emergency First Response (EFR) Course consists of Independent Study and Skills Workbook.
The course will cover:
Primary Care (CPR) – This part of the course teaches you the steps and techniques for handling life-threatening emergency situations. You will practice skills for aiding patients who aren’t breathing, have no heartbeat, may have a spinal injury, may be in shock or may have serious bleeding. You will learn how to perform CPR and other vital skills, so that you provide every possible chance of survival while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive. Secondary Care (First Aid) – Because many medical conditions are not life-threatening and emergency medical services are sometimes delayed or unavailable, this part of the course teaches you to assess a variety of injuries and illnesses and practice bandaging and splinting for dislocations and fractures. After successfully completing the programme, you’ll receive the Emergency First Response (EFR) Certification. This certification will give you the skills you need to respond to a wide range of emergencies. After completing Primary and Secondary Care, take the PADI Rescue Diver Course and the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Course, together these three courses round out your ability to handle scuba diver emergencies.
The Emergency First Response (EFR) Course consists of two main phases:
Step 1 Independent Study
The Independent Study is designed so can learn how to manage different emergencies.
The Theory consists of Emergency First Response (EFR), Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) manual. Also two knowledge reviews and Emergency First Response (EFR) Videos. The Videos preview emergency scenarios and provide step-by-step skill demonstrations. Upon completion you will be given the final exam. The Independent Study covers a wide range of topics including: Helping Others in Need, The Emotional Aspects of Being an
Emergency Responder, Keeping Your Skills Fresh, Leading a Healthy Lifestyle, Protecting Yourself Against Bloodborne Pathogens, Recognizing life-threatening Problems, Primary Care Definitions and Background Information, Using AB-CABS and the Cycle of Care. You can do the knowledge section at your own pace and when it’s convenient for you. You can complete the academics online, or do independent study in our ‘classroom’.
